The Journey
1 Corinthians 12:20-25 (NKJV) But now indeed there are many members, yet one
body.
Life is a journey. The destination is always the same, but the journey each takes is unique. I don't believe we are bodies with spirits or souls. I believe we are eternal souls with temporary bodies. What we choose to do on our journey through this life can be amazing! Or it can be horrible....the choice is ours to make.
I was watching a garden video today by Navajopa on youtube. I love watching this man's videos; he's so down-to-earth and just says it how it is. He made a comment that tomato plants, when grown in flats or close to each other will grow and intertwine, and the weight of the individual plants will be supported by each other. They won't fall over, even though they are technically vines. Separate the plants and they will grow spindly and fall over with the weight of fruits. He mentioned how people can be like this. We were created to be together in groups. We're pack animals in a way. We like to live in neighborhoods or cities, where we can be together socially, for safety assurances I suppose? In large cities there are a million people living within a few acres of each other. Based on human needs, cities should be the friendliest places on Earth!
What tends to occur in humans, that separates us from other living beings is humans have pride. Pride makes us want to be better than another, or pride tells us that if we were better we would deserve more, or pride can even tell us that we deserve what others have, just because we're human. Pride makes people steal, pride makes people kill, pride makes people depressed, and pride makes sociopaths.....pride pretty much ruins us if we allow it. Plants don't have pride. They were created for one purpose...to grow and reach the sunlight, make flowers and then seeds and that's it. Annuals aren't jealous of perennials because they live longer. Tomatoes aren't jealous of grapes, and tender marigolds don't get jealous of prickly cacti. God gave each plant its own protection and its own growth patterns. If God loves plants this much, how much more has He given us-His masterpiece?
We need each other. We all have unique strengths and weaknesses, that make us individuals, but we need someone else. "Many members, yet one body" If we let our pride fail, and realize that we truly need each other, this world will be a better, happier and safer place to live. The funny thing about pride, that I have noticed, is that the things one covets of others are just that.....things. Nothing we can take with us on our journey, nothing we can really use to better ourselves...just things; replaceable, repairable, regrettable things. God makes me happy. Things don't (okay plants make me happy too). Yes I know things make the world go around, but as believers aren't we to be set apart from the world? Let go of your pride today, and let God work in you....you won't be sorry.
Remember: Talk to God...you won't regret it. Be nice to someone in spite of them deserving our kindness, and most of all....Go Be Physical TODAY! Tomorrow will be too late!
Peace.
