Who are we?

Today is my birthday. Yayyyyy!! I am really 45, but if anyone asks I say I am 29 and staying 29 until I get it right. I was told once that the best 20 years of a woman's life are between the ages of 29 and 30, and I fully intend to see if "they" are correct...so far it's been great! I love birthdays. Actually I love any reason to celebrate...even just celebrating Tuesdays. The only thing about my own birthday I don't enjoy is the fact that it makes me wonder, "Who am I?"

In Psalm 115 we read about the idols men worship:
Their idols are silver and gold,
The work of men’s hands.
They have mouths, but they do not speak;
Eyes they have, but they do not see;
They have ears, but they do not hear;
Noses they have, but they do not smell;
They have hands, but they do not handle;
Feet they have, but they do not walk;
Nor do they mutter through their throat.
Those who make them are like them;
So is everyone who trusts in them.

Back then the idols were little statues made from precious metals: gold or silver. But what are today's idols? Today's idols are electronics, gadgets, cell phones, tablets or whatever little device the world uses to do everything. These devices have changed us, and not all in good ways. We're losing the ability to speak to people. We are killing the languages and replacing them with text speech. "How r u 2day?" When did this become English? We are becoming less patient and kind, saying things in text or chats that we would never say to someone face-to-face. We have lost the joy we seek in each other. Remember, not too long ago, we would see a group of people in a restaurant, all sitting at a table together, with their heads down clicking away on a gadget? We would almost laugh and say wow are they disconnected! Now that has become the norm. People are pack animals and need each other, but through shortening our words and our meanings, we are losing the ability to communicate fully with each other. We are becoming like our idols. We have mouths but do not speak effectively. We have eyes but can't see each other or the truth. We have feet but we're not being physical and walking. We are becoming like our idols.....dead useless objects to be used by whomever has the next, "latest and greatest" technology out there. We are becoming that which we gaze upon. Upon what do you gaze?

2 Corinthians 3:18 But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.
If we gaze upon God we become more like God. If we gaze upon the world we become more like the world. I gaze upon plants often hoping to become more like plant, but well so far, the closest I have come is becoming more "green". I love this Earth, the beauty, the splendor and all it offers us, but it's ours to control, and through this love I choose to protect my little corner of the Earth. Man has dominion over the Earth, but what truly has dominion over us? We have over 100 nuclear power plants in the US alone. One slip of the highly unprotected power grid, and there go those power plants. Yes, they have back up systems in place, but without power, from where will these backups come in the long run? Eventually they will "melt down" and Chernobyl and Fukishima will look like a walk in the park. And this is only one example of man's greed for power coming full cycle to bite us in the heinies. Will this happen? I can't say, but it COULD happen. Because we have made technology an idol. Is technology bad? No, I don't believe that. But we need balance in ALL things.

Isn't it time we start gazing upon the glory of God again?
I challenge us all to put down the devices, go outside and actually talk to people for a little while each day. Face-to-face is the best way to communicate. There are fewer misunderstandings. We fulfill the joy in each other. We complete the cycle. We curb ourselves to use tact and understanding.  We can even become....dare I say it....compassionate with one another...showing each the true meaning of Love. God is Love, so go be Love today like John said in 2 John 1:12. 12 Having many things to write unto you, I would not write with paper and ink; but I trust to come unto you and speak face to face, that our joy may be full. Writing then is like texting now. But John had to speak to his friends face-to-face so that their joy could be complete. Is your joy complete today?

Talk to your Creator. Whatever you call Him, He loves you and wants to be part of your life. You will better for it. Get out and meet people face-to-face......but most of all Go Be Physical....Today! Tomorrow is too late!
Peace.
